Rose

Millennia ago, Ariadne met Theseus. She fell in love with him, helped him escape from a labyrinth, and then fled to an island with him. There, he promised to marry her. When she awoke, Ariadne was alone. Theseus had abandoned her.

‘Why do we stop being in love?
Just as mysteriously as we fall in love?’

No quest has spanned the centuries quite like this one, nor stirred our hearts so deeply. For this plunge into the depths of passion, join the immortal Ariadne, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, the 19th-century poet Hilda Doolittle, Michel from *Married at First Sight*, the 18th-century socialite Lady Caroline, and Beyoncé, who needs no introduction.

Le Télégramme – 14 August 2023
In Île-aux-Moines, with ‘Rose’, the Notre Insouciance theatre company explores the nature of love

‘On the evening of Saturday 12 August, the market square in Île-aux-Moines was transformed into a theatre. The Théâtre en Herbe hosted the Notre Insouciance theatre company. Their play ‘Rose’ is adapted from the comic strip ‘The Reddest Rose Blooms’ by Liv Strömquist, a Swedish author. Six energetic young actors (three boys and three girls) dissect contemporary and historical romantic relationships, both same-sex and Don Juan-esque. Their unpretentious style allows them to poke fun at today’s remedies for heartbreak. The whole performance is punctuated by beautifully sung musical interludes and the unexpected arrival of a fiery Beyoncé lookalike who gets everyone up and dancing. This show offers a unique encounter in a public space.”

The Amapola Festival transforms the Rambouillet forest into an eco-friendly and feminist celebration

“At the same time, the edge of the woods is transformed into an open-air theatre. With bales of straw serving as makeshift seats, the Notre Insouciance theatre company kicks things off for just under an hour. Monologues, songs, dances… Their adaptation of *La Rose la plus rouge* by Liv Strömquist deconstructs love with humour. And even the (majority) of the audience who were unfamiliar with the feminist cartoonist are won over. The director, Juliette Hecquet, is delighted: “Reaching people who didn’t think of themselves as theatregoers is what interests me.” The proof: without having planned it, Manon was able to relive the comic strip by an author she has been following for a very long time.”
